Vegan culture is not common in Azerbaijan. People still look upon vegans and vegan culture as something strange.
National Azerbaijani cuisine contains mostly meat and dairy products. That being said, you can find some great vegan side dishes such as salads and roasted vegetables and spreads. Make sure to check our Local Food tab to better know your options.
It’s important to be aware that vegetable dishes advertised as such, may be fried with meat fat, so make sure to ask.
As English is not the country’s second language (Russian is), you will not find lots of eateries with menus in English. We highly suggest to print out our Azbijana Vegan Pronunciation to make yourself better understood.
The good news is that in the past few years, vegan culture has grown and there are more vegan and vegetarian restaurants and Vegan Snack options opening in the capital, Baku, every year.
