Animals commonly seen in the wild

Marine fauna:

Dolphins, sharks, fishes, sea turtles.

Birds:

Toucans, parrots, quetzal, hummingbirds, Clay colored thrush, buzzards, hawks.

Land mammals:

Monkeys, jaguars, pumas, dantas, sloths, wild pig, deers, racons, wild cats.

Snakes and insects:

Snakes, crocodiles, lizards, frogs, butterflies, crickets, geckos.

Common sights you will not like

In the city and

Stray cats and dogs.

In the
Countryside

Horses are used to pull carriages. Buffaloes are used for agricultural purposes such as plowing the fields.

Hunting or poaching:

Hunting is illegal as a sport in Costa Rica and punished by 3000$ fine. That being said there are still locals who hunt. Main animals being hunted are whitetail deer, peccary, lowland paca, danta.

Animal fights:

Animal fights are illegal, although under the radar, dog and rooster fights still take place.
