Animals commonly seen in the wild
Marine fauna:
Trout, sea turtles, cuttlefish, mullets, jellyfish.
Birds:
Buzzards, hawks, woodpeckers, doves, pigeons, storks, quails, partridges, pheasants
Land mammals:
Brown bears, sheep, ibexes, pigs, horses, wolves, lynxes, hares, foxes
Snakes and insects:
Vipers, green lizards, wall lizards, geckos, grass snakes, whip snakes.
Common sights you will not like
In the city and on the road
Stray animals are mostly dogs roaming around the streets. Some dogs can be also seen tied up or inside cages. Horse-drawn carriages are utilized by tourists.
In theCountryside
Horse-drawn carts and wagons can sometimes be seen in the countryside.
Hunting or poaching:
Hunting is allowed.
Animal fights:
Animal fights are illegal. However, reports of dog fights show that they still take place.
We have not included the treatment of animals in the meat/fur/leather industries, zoos or circuses, animal testing as it unfortunately still happens in most countries.
